Start with the data you care about
If your device still works, make a current backup before handing it over. Check the backup status and confirm that the photos, files and contacts you need are available. A repair should never be your only plan for keeping a copy of important information.
For iPhone and iPad, follow Apple’s service preparation guide. For Android, use Google’s backup guidance and your device maker’s instructions. App-specific data can need separate attention; Google notes that not every app backs up or restores everything.
If the screen is unusable or the device will not start, tell us that you cannot complete a backup. Ask about the data implications before agreeing to any work.
Write down what changed
Describe the fault in everyday terms: the screen lights up but touch does not work, charging stops when the cable moves, or the tablet restarts during use. Note when it began and whether it followed a drop, liquid exposure, update or earlier repair.
Include what still works. A short description of the behaviour is more useful than guessing which component needs replacing. See our repair enquiry guide for an example.
Keep account access under your control
Do not put passwords, passcodes or recovery codes in an enquiry. Ask what access is needed for testing and discuss the options in person. If you need to enter account details, keep control of them yourself.
Preparation depends on the device and service. Ask before erasing it or changing account security settings. A manufacturer’s service instructions may describe its own repair process; FixnSave is an independent business.
Check what to bring and what to ask
Have the model name ready, along with the charger or accessory involved if the problem relates to it. Confirm what is useful to bring before making a special trip.
- What work is proposed, and what remains uncertain until inspection?
- What parts and current availability apply to this model?
- Does the quote include labour, and is there an assessment charge?
- What happens if another fault is found?
- Could the proposed work affect the data on the device?
These questions help you agree on the next step. The answer depends on your device and its condition.
